The Great Mascara Debate: Drugstore vs. Department Store?

The other day I was lured into my local Macy’s by a “beauty bonus” from one of my favorite brands. You know, a cute little bag filled with trial-sized make-up and skincare. The lipstick and shadow colors are never exactly right, but nevertheless, I had to have them! I decided to splurge and get a mascara that receives a lot of media buzz and is supposed to be quite wonderful. I usually get mascara from the drugstore, so I was excited to try it.

However, the next day while doing my morning routine, I try the new “splurge” mascara is it is just…okay. Several days later, my lashes seem to be more clumpy, and I am seriously irritated with myself for straying from my beloved Maybelline Lash Discovery and Define-A-Lash.

I get a lot of make-up and skincare products from the department stores, but I think my lashes have cheap taste, and the drugstore brands work well for me. Is mascara a product that you splurge or save on?

Usually I splurge on mascara, but I really like Lash Blast!

My favorite mascara is Lash Blast. I have tried everything - even DiorShow, but Lash Blast is still my favorite!

Thanks for the comment on my blog! What a nice blog you have - did you read Summer at Tiffany? It's an adorable read.

I don't spend much on mascara. Never have. I don't know - I use whatever. Although I will say that Great Lash (the pink and green tube) always makes the Allure best beauty buys but it always clumped up on me so I stopped buying it. Right now I think I'm using Almay. I have heard Defincils is good - is that Lancome? Anyway, I can't justify $20+ on mascara.

I have tried many over the years.
Mascara is the one thing I find not necessary to splurge on and is the one cosmetic that I do buy from a drug-store. I get great results with MF 2000 calorie mascara on top, and Maybelline great lash on bottom. I like a thicker formula on top and a thinner, not-clumpy-at-all formula on bottom!
Lancome Definicils is very good, but so is a nice fresh tube of Max Factor. I can't say this for foundation, powder, eyeshadow, or lipstick!

I have tried everything from Mabeline to Dior and I think the Mabeline great lash works for me. It's all in what you like.

I definitely don't splurge on mascara, I use max factor and it seems to do just fine, recently I've tried adding the little individual false lashes at the ends just for a new look and I'm thinking of trying a full set of false lashes just to see what it would look like, you know for like a date night or something. :)

I do a little of both. I love my Maybelline Great Lash, but I also love my Diorshow! I think it just depends on the day for me. But I definitely agree that not all high-end brands make mascaras worth the price!
