Today is my best friend, Darling’s, birthday!! She is now very, very old just like me!! Just kidding, hon, we are only getting better with age!
Darling and I met in the third grade in Mrs. Bran’s class. My family had just moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and I was the new kid in class. Darling and I bonded over a shared love of Babysitters Club books, riding our bikes, popsicles, and trips to the duck pond to feed the ducks. It wasn’t long before we were exchanging “Best Friend” necklaces and spending all our time together.
The summer after our 6th grade year, my family moved to Kentucky, and Darling and I were devastated! However, our friendship remained strong despite the distance. She and I have had the most amazing adventures in our 21 year friendship (yes, B, 21 years, can you believe it?!?!) We’ve worked together, lived together, traveled the world together, and had more fun than any two people could ever have.
Have a wonderful day, Darling! I love you and miss you!
P.S. Some of you might wonder why there is a picture of a watermelon with this post. Darling is the quintessential southern girl, but I have never, in my whole life, seen someone who loves watermelon as much as she does! I once saw her eat an entire seedless (sorry hon, you know it’s true!)
