Shortcuts

So the other day I was waxing philosophical about the beauty of a task done right; when start to finish, you follow every step, take your time, and arrive at a job beautifully done. For example, making brownies from scratch, you can totally tell the difference.

Then Monday rolled around, and I arrived to work to find hysterical teammates and a two-page to-do list that keeps inexplicably growing. This is when I threw my first philosophy out the window! Right now, I am all about the shortcuts…give me any tool or technique to help me get something done faster or with less effort…

Yesterday I also realized that I would not be able to keep a highlights appointment that my hair desperately needs. Normally I would just reschedule, but I am going on a business trip next week, and the prospect of meeting people with dark roots makes me appalled. I was faced with a dilemma….enter shortcut!

Over lunch, I ran to the drugstore and bought (for $5!) this root touch up kit. This is not something I would normally use, because past experiences of me coloring my own hair have proved disastrous, but I was desperate. Anyway, the kit took 10 minutes to do and the results are…good. Not perfect, certainly not like having a professional do it, but it cost $5 as opposed to $85, and my roots are lighter and blend it much better, so I’ll take it!!!

Next I am going to try this product. My best friend swears by it and doing my manicure on the metro would definitely be a shortcut!
What are your favorite shortcuts?

oh my gosh, I would love to try the root touch up but I'm afraid....I have pretty dark hair and highlight it to a light dirty blond?? What about you? Do you think I could do it?

oooh great tips! I must look out for the nail shine! A shortcut I use (like yesterday when I couldn't wash my hair due to the bad eye incident), I had to powder my hair with baby talc! Only works on blonde hair otherwise you look grey! Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is a big fave as well - makes you look like you've had 10 hours sleep! Enjoy your week end!

I was just looking at that nail shine today at CVS! Have you tried it yet? Is it like nail polish??
