Happy Birthday, Marm!

Yesterday was my mother’s birthday, and I wish I could be down in Florida with her this weekend to give her a big hug on her day! I’ll be home soon, Marm!!

What everyone should know about my mother is that she is always right about things. This might sound strange, but it is honestly true! This fact used to infuriate me as a teenager, and I would purposely do the opposite of whatever she told me to do. But as I got older, I came to realize that behind even the smaller pieces of advice she gave me, were classic lessons about how to live. My mother believes in working hard, enjoying life, thinking positively, and above all, being kind to everyone. This is how she lives everyday, and these are the things she taught her daughters.

About five years ago, I was stuck in a dead-end job, at the end of a dead-end relationship, and I wasn’t feeling too good about myself. My mother urged me to take my GRE and go back to school. She started calling me everyday to register, and then physically drove me to the test center and sat outside in the hallway while I took the 4-hour test (that is love!). I complained bitterly to anyone who would listen that my mother was bossing me around and was constantly “on my case.” However, I ended up doing well on the GRE and got a scholarship to graduate school where I met D on the first day of orientation! Getting into grad school skyrocketed my self esteem, meeting D was the best surprise of my life, and going back to school helped me start a new career! You see, my mother is always right, and I hope she NEVER stops giving me advice!!

I love you, mom!! Because of you, I am a happier, more joyful person. Have a wonderful birthday weekend!
